Vincent used different canvas sizes for his paintings, so for the vertical ‘Terrace and Observation Deck at the Moulin de Blute-Fin, Montmartre’ we had to extend his framing to fit it into the films ratio, as our hero Armand Roulin continues his journey through Paris.
For this painting we also changed the colours. Vincent painted the original in winter, whereas our film takes place in summer, so we referenced other paintings that he painted in Paris, in the summertime, in and around Montmartre, as the basis for the revised palette.
