John has had ensemble roles as a character actor in many films such as Gangs of New York, The Bounty, and Kenneth Branagh’s Henry V.

He starred prominently in Channel 4’s Porterhouse Blues and BBC’s lavish adaptaption of Mervyn Peake’s novels, Gormenghast. He is a regular panellist on Whose Line is it Anyway and QI.
